2011 Brookhaven Arts Festival- Call for Artists

Just a reminder, the Brookhaven Art Alliance is hosting the 8th annual 2011 Brookhaven Arts Festival this October (October 15-16) behind the Brookhaven MARTA Station on Apple Valley Road. The deadline for artists to fill out a booth application is June 12. Booth fee's are $125.00 and will go to marketing the arts festival.

Brookhaven Arts Festival

The 8th annual, 2011 Brookhaven Arts Festival will be held Saturday October 15th (10am - 6pm) and Sunday October 16th (12pm-6pm). The BAF is free to the community and is held on Apple Valley Road, directly behind the Brookhaven MARTA Station. Mark your calendars for this great event! Cory, Jasper, and I enjoyed ourselves at last year's festival, and we're looking forward to this years. 

Hmm, you might think... why are they informing me about an event that is over 6 months away? Well, we'll tell you:  2011 applications are now being accepted until June 10th if you are interested in being one of the 100+ artists featured at the festival this year and spots fill up quickly - so get yours in early! If you aren't an artist and are still interested in getting involved from a planning/set up perspective, the BAF needs volunteers.  It is a 100% volunteer planned event, and there are several areas in need of help, from working with children to helping the artists. Don't worry about putting the event on your calendar now (unless you're an artist or volunteer)... we'll post a reminder when we have more info about vendors, etc. 

The Brookhaven Art Alliance- sponsor/planner of this event, is having a happy hour March 23rd on the patio at 57th Fighter Group beginning at 6:00 P.M. If you're interested in learning more about the BAA or their other programs- this would be a great event to attend!

Costume Contest & World Bazaar

Just got a few emails about some upcoming events!

Costume Party tonight! Friday, October 29th at Library Coffee Co. Enjoy free appetizers and a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded for best costume.

Also, from the Brookhaven Art Alliance, a new (?) organization called the Brookhaven Community Connection is hosting a "Bazaar"/Market next weekend at Village Place. See below for information about the event.

Brookhaven Arts Festival

This weekend the Brookhaven Art Alliance held the 7th annual Brookhaven Arts Festival. The festival was held both Saturday and Sunday and boasted artists, musicians, sculptors, local organizations, food vendors, and kiddie fun.

With a lot of other stuff going on this weekend, Cory and I were only able to make the end of the show yesterday (Sunday). We grabbed the pup (Jasper) and walked over to see the festival. A few of the artists had started to take their stuff down, but we walked around and checked out everything, listened to some music, and bought some beer (our only purchase).


The festival was still packed full of people, and there was a lot of vendors and artists booths to check out (probably around 75 or so) when we got there.  We didn't stay too long since things were starting to wind down, but we saw all that we could and stopped in a couple booths to talk to the artists (and of course, Jasper made some friends!).  There was definitely some interesting local artists and photographers, and we got some great ideas to use for the house.

This is definitely something we will go to again next year and hopefully spend some more time (and money)!

Brookhaven Happenings

We've received a few emails with some updates on Brookhaven happenings, and I thought I would share:

• Tonight (and every Thursday) Live Music at the Library Coffee. Join them tonight from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm for the Gary Harris Band. This four member band led by Jazz Saxophonist Gary Harris, will play a range of upbeat tunes. Remember - they have cold beers from the tap starting at just $3 a pint plus an extensive wine list with glasses starting at just $6.
• Next weekend (October 16 & 17) the Brookhaven Arts Festival, hosted by the Brookhaven Art Alliance and presented by Brookhaven Bank, returns to Apple Valley Road. Located directly behind the Brookhaven-Oglethorpe MARTA station, this arts and entertainment event is convenient to everyone in Atlanta. Free to the public, come join more than 125 artists that will be displaying and marketing their fine arts. There will also be live music throughout the festival.
• Cory and I are also planning a visit to the Peachtree Road Farmers Market on Saturday in Buckhead (every Sat. from 9am-12:30pm) to pick up some yummy seasonal veggies and check out some chef demos. Visit their website to also find a great harvesting calendar.There's also a smaller, more local Farmers Market every Thursday evening (4pm - 8pm) at the Old Five Points junction (Ashford Dunwoody & Johnson Ferry Road) in Chamblee/Brookhaven. • There is also a Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club Make Over Day on October 17th (9am-4pm)! The National Business Aviation Association and Club Sport will spend a full day giving the Brookhaven Club a much needed makeover. Projects for the Makeover include:
  
  1. Playground renovation
  2. Teen Center renovation
  3. Spruce up/painting of Club rooms
  4. Volleyball courts
  5. Softball Field and much more!
  This will be a fun and rewarding day for all. Please volunteer by registering HERE. Make sure you add Club Sport as the Company Name when registering.

Sorry we have been MIA! We were vacationing in the lovely Tucson, AZ... eating great Mexican food and enjoying some scenic desert hiking! See photo of our Mexican Feast at Guadalajara Grill soooo yummy... I had the guaco-tacos and Cory had the tamale (pictured). They even hand-make your salsa right in front of you! But anyways... we are happy to be home.
